In a little girls room it might be very appropriate to have a set that is adorned with bows and other prints that reflect the feminine nature of the room. For a young boys room the opposite might be true, instead of frilly feminine prints you would probably opt for a more masculine look.
There are plenty of adult themes to choose from as well. In guest rooms the bedding set might be of a floral nature or a solid color. Something that is a bit more sophisticated.
